Since 1853 Bechstein pianos have held a reputation as among the finest pianos in the world, competing with Bösendorfer and Steinway in construction, performance and tonal quality.  Bechsteins embodied the clear, sweet tone of Erards with the power of the English and American pianos.  In 1867, they won both gold and silver awards in the London and Paris World Piano Expositions. The great composers, Liszt, Wagner, Brahms and Debussy all remarked on the wonderful tone Bechsteins produced.
